Health benefits of eating nuts and dried fruits 01/05/08
Nuts, seeds and dried fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals and good fats that not only taste brilliant but slowly release their energy, proteins and valuable enzymes so are also the perfect “healthy” snack.
Below are some reasons why you should eat nuts.
Almonds : contain fatty acids, zinc, magnesium, potassium, iron and calcium they maintain healthy blood fat levels, strengthen the cardiovascular system and may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Brazil Nuts : contain selenium which is good for the immune system and vitamin E a powerful antioxidant and has anti ageing properties. Brazils also help to prevent various cancers.
Cashew Nuts : contain Magnesium, Zinc, B Vitamins and phosphorus that build strong bones and teeth and they can help with stress.
Hazelnuts : contain monounsaturated fats and Vitamin E which are good for the blood, the heart and wrinkles.
Pecan Nuts : contain over 19 vitamins including A & E , folic acid, zinc, magnesium and phosphorous, they’re great for bones and your heart.
Walnuts : contain alphalinolenic acid, oleic acid and monounsaturated fats like olive oil.
Pumpkin seeds : contain, iron, zinc, phosphorous, calcium and potassium great source of protein.
Sunflowers seeds : contain iron, zinc, phosphorous, potassium and calcium and are rich in protein.
Pinenut kernels : contain lots of protein good for energy.
Raisins : contain calcium, iron, potassium and natural sugars.
Dried Cranberries : contain fibre, magnesium, vitamins K & C good for urinary infections, kidney stones, aid recoveries of strokes and help prevent cancers.
Dried Strawberries : contain vitamin c, potassium, fibre, folate.
Peanuts : High in fibre, excellant source of niacin (vitamin B3) which helps maintain healthy nerves. Also rich in vitamin E.
Apricots : High in fibre and potassium and packed with anti-oxidant beta-carotene (vitamin A) which helps maintain healthy hair, skin, nails, and can also help with vision, teeth and gums.
Prunes : High in fibre and contain double the anti-oxidants of any other fruit or vegetable. They contain iron and vitamin A, and are an excellant laxative.
